Something that explains a lot of what we do and why

This video blew my socks off.
It proves something I've been wondering about for many years; why we work hard on some things and not on others. I think you'll find it fascinating.. and I go so far as to say it may even cause some serious change in the way you work and why!

We've been saying it for years...

As you know, I've been advocating coconut oil for years now. "Saturated fats?" doctors would exclaim. "No way!'

I even gave links to a series of amazing videos on successful use of coco oil for the cure of ALZHEIMERS'!

Now we learn that dietary intakes of saturated fats are not linked to cardiovascular disease, so says a meta-analysis of 21 studies from across the world.

Data from almost 350,000 subjects obtained from 21 studies indicated that dietary intakes of saturated fat are not associated with increases in the risk of either coronary heart disease (CHD) or cardiovascular disease (CVD), US researchers report in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

“Our meta-analysis showed that there is insufficient evidence from prospective epidemiologic studies to conclude that dietary saturated fat is associated with an increased risk of CHD, stroke, or CVD,” wrote the researchers, led by Dr Ronald Krauss from the Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute in California.

“[However,] nutritional epidemiologic studies provide only one category of evidence for evaluating the relation of saturated fat intake to risk for CHD, stroke, and CVD. An overall assessment requires consideration of results of clinical trials as well as information regarding the effects of saturated fat on underlying disease mechanisms, as discussed elsewhere in this issue,” they added.

The study, funded by the US National Dairy Council, Unilever, (Ian: Who???) and the National Institutes of Health, challenges the widely supported theory that saturated fats are detrimental to heart health. The UK’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) has previously stated estimated that if people cut their saturated fat intake to government recommendations it could prevent up to 3,500 premature deaths a year, saving the UK economy more than £1bn a year in related costs.

Such estimates have led to public awareness campaigns in the UK, including a £3.5m advertising campaign to encourage consumers to reduce their intake of saturated fat and change the way they shop and eat.

Business as usual

Commenting on the new meta-analysis, a spokesperson for the FSA said that the meta-analysis does not challenge the Agency’s saturated fat campaign.

“The Agency recognises that there is evidence to support an indirect link between saturated fat intake and increased LDL cholesterol, which may lead to increased risk of CHD. This is in line with World Health Organization and other eminent health bodies,” said the spokesperson.

Vitamin insufficiency: Is it boosting age-related diseases

This is literally all about living for today. By understanding that nature favours survival today over tomorrow, a theory that vitamin inadequacy is behind the rise in chronic diseases “makes sense… and it is almost certainly going to be right,” says world-renowned scientist Bruce Ames.

In an interview with Stephen Daniells, Professor Bruce Ames from the University of California, Berkeley explains why his “triage theory” could have enormous implications for human health.

For many, Professor Ames needs no introduction. In the 1970s, he invented the Ames Test, a simple and inexpensive assay to check the mutagenicity of compounds. Since then he has dedicated his research to understanding the biochemistry of ageing, with a focus on mitochondria, the power plants of our cells, as well as how micronutrients may prevent disease, malnutrition, and obesity.

So, when the native New Yorker with over 450 scientific publications tells you histriage theory is “the most important thing I have ever worked on”, you sit up and listen.

Evolutionary mechanisms

Triage – from the French word trier means to sort, separate, or select – works on the battlefield by military doctors prioritising treatments depending on the probable survival of the wounded.

Prof Ames’ theory works in much the same way: By appreciating that natural selection favours short-term survival over the long-term, Prof Ames’ hypothesised that our short-term survival is achieved by prioritising the allocation of scarce micronutrients. In other words, to stop us falling over from a lack of iron in the heart, for example, iron is pulled from non-essential sources.

The triage theory is a way of “measuring the insidious damage going on over time”, he said.

The theory was first proposed in 2006 (PNAS, Vol. 103, Pages 17589-94) to explain why age-related diseases like heart disease, cancer, and dementia may be unintended consequences of mechanisms developed during evolution to protect against episodic vitamin/mineral shortages.

“If this hypothesis is correct,

...micronutrient deficiencies that trigger the triage response would accelerate cancer, aging, and neural decay but would leave critical metabolic functions, such as ATP production, intact,”

explained Prof Ames in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

However, since it was first published Prof Ames concedes that the wider nutrition community has not embraced the theory.

Ian: Of course! So may brilliant minds are years ahead of today's opinion! I agree with the Prof.; after all, what is calcium sacrifice as a result of immediate acidification if not a perfect example of triage?

Bottled Water NoNo

MONTREAL — Upon testing several popular brands of bottled water, researchers at C-crest Laboratories in Montreal were surprised to find high counts of heterotrophic bacteria, the Times Colonist reported.

The researchers declined to reveal which brands were tested, but said they found that bottled water contains significantly more bacteria than tap water, the article stated.

According to the report, more than 70 percent of the bottled water tested did not meet standards set by the United States Phamacopeia (USP), which states that no more than 500 colony forming units (cfu) of bacteria per milliliter should be present in drinking water.

“Bottled water is not expected to be free from microorganisms but the (colony forming unit count) observed in this study is surprisingly very high,” said Sonish Azam, a researcher in the study. “Therefore, it is strongly recommended to establish a limit for the heterotrophic bacteria count as well as to identify the nature of microorganisms present in the bottled water.”

Nice...

Leon, our customer support manager, received this email yesterday:

"Hi Leon,

Just started reading your e-mail when I reached your paragraph about the lovely old lady and her comments on the use of the alkaline Booster Sports. Instantly this brought a smile to my face as this person that you were talking about is my mother. She happened to be buying the products for my sister as we both live in Brisbane. Just thought I would share with you, not only has it helped with my mother's reflux, it has also increased her energy levels and her health in general. We are all fans of this product. I was talking to my mother just after she had bought the five tubs and she told me she had meet a lovely man by the name of Leon and how very helpful you were.  You certainly made an impression on her.

And another Doc joins the Alkaline Response

Dr. Pradip Jamnadas, an Interventional Cardiologist with Florida Hospital, agrees with us that acid in the body can change the PH balance.
"If you consume more sugar in your diet, concentrated sugars particularly, you produce acid in your body and this acid can change your PH," he said. But he also said there are few randomized control studies showing that alkaline water reduces your chances of getting diseases.

"But there is some evidence to suggest if you eat fruits or foods that produce more alkaline in your body, these patients do seem to do better," he added.
Here's a video of him.

Tech Talk: Hard Water

(Thanks to Ionways USA for this useful info)

We hear the term "hard water" quite often in the business of ionizers. Hard water is water that contains high levels of minerals, usually found as calcium and magnesium. This type of highly mineralized water is more common in some areas than in others: WA, South Australia, Central Australia and NT to name a few. Hardness is usually measured in milligrams per liter, (mg/L - also known as parts per million). We raise a flag of concern when we see hardness levels near or above 290mg/L.

When we consider that our ionizers take hard water and make it harder by concentrating alkaline minerals, the level of hardness in the source water can become a factor in the way you maintain your machine. Why? Because high concentrations of calcium and magnesium (essential alkalizing minerals needed for optimum health!) can create a build-up called, "scale." Scale build-up is treatable and completely preventable if it's caught early enough, and knowing where to look for it is important.

Take a peek at the end of your stainless steel flexible spout, or, if you have an under-sink model, the tip of your faucet. If you see a build-up that looks slightly off-white, light green/bluish, or with hints of tan or yellow, you are looking at scale.

The easiest way to clean the visible scale on external components is to use plain white vinegar, which can be purchased at almost any grocery store. Because it is acidic, the vinegar will dissolve the alkaline mineral scale and leave your ionizer nice and clean!

For internal cleaning, our patented cleaning system uses acidic water to clean and prevent scale from forming. The built-in cleaning system inside our ionizers is so effective that we've never seen a single water cell with build-up on its plates - not even one! Even so, the cleaning system doesn't reach the dispensing end from which the alkaline water flows and this is where the build-up that slows down water flow and causes blockage is found. A simple and very effective way to prevent this is to change the way we get our alkaline water.

If you are drinking level 3 alkaline water, the discharge from your acid hose will be level 3 acidic water. To get all the benefits of your own post cleaning system, set your ionizer to dispense acidic water from the  spout and drink alkaline water from the acidic discharge hose. Its that easy, and very effective! Run it like this for a few days.
(ian: a great idea!)

Of course there are preventative measures that can be taken to protect your ionizer, such as using an anti-scaling device or, in extreme situations, the use of a reverse osmosis system. In the meantime, this will help a few folks to prevent scale build-up on their machines. If you need help with a scaling issue, it's always better to contact technical services sooner than later - because the sooner we can catch the problem, the better the chance of avoiding costly repairs.

Yet another Scientific report on alkaline ionized water.. but.. er... Cooked Mouse, anyone?

They keep coming. But this one, done awhile ago, and I hope, hope, hope never repeated, is one we could probably do without. Especially when I read this:

"The survival time and swimming time were 51% and 22.7% more respectively in experimental group than in control group."

So here's the study:

I have to admit... When I read it, it did remind me of a young chap who is a concreter. In the middle of our steamy Byron Bay summer I had a chat to him as he filled his AlkaWay 15l bottle from our auto dispenser.

"Yes, mate," he said. "I used to fade out after a couple of hours on the job. I'd guzzle mineral water and all that happened was I'd go fuzzy. With this water, I just keep powering, and my mind is sharp as a tack!"

Interesting...live blood analysis of alkaline water drinker

BTW>> anything this guy says is not our opinion. As you know, I make NO therapeutic claims.

You have to admit - they are triers!

So what do you do if you have a product that everyone is beginning to hate? Change it slightly so you can make people love it.
These guys have done it; changing the empty PET plastic water bottle to a playground component.

Dr Laura

When initially introduced to alkaline, ionized water, Dr. Laura Precourt, a Chiropractic Kinesiologist, decided to do her own research before making the final decision on what machine would suit her best. After speaking with many different companies and asking the same basic questions, Dr. Laura chose an EmcoTech ionizer.

In her practice, Dr. Laura focuses on how physical, chemical, and emotional stress can destroy the nervous system and steal life from the body. She adjusts the spine, treats emotional weakness, and educates her patients about how to live a healthier life by removing as many harmful toxins as possible from their lifestyle, and by eating right. Dr. Laura believes that up to 70% of illness can be cured simply by hydrating the body.

Dr. Laura's advice for staying healthy? Drink one litre of a
lkaline ionized water for every 25kg of body weight, eat either protein and vegetables, or grains and vegetables as a meal. Eat Fruit in between meals. Organic and all natural products are best. Try to avoid sugar, white starches, and all man-made food. Caffeine, milk chocolate, nicotine, and alcohol should also be avoided.

Dr. Laura has had a myriad of amazing stories from her patients who drink the water, including blood sugar, blood pressure, inflammation, constipation, allergies, digestive problems, acid reflux, migraine headaches, arthritis, low energy, insomnia, depression, skin conditions, and much more.

And More studies on Alkaway water!

Here's one more to add to the growing pile. This one tests diabetic mice with alkaline ionized water identical to Alkaway water.

Say No to GMO Dupe

I don't know about you, but with the realisation that as an ordinary human I'm carrying in excess of 600 foreign chemical compounds around has prompted me to be something of a foodstore vigilante, scrutinising food labels meticulously. Cassie has gone further, ringing manufacturers to ensure the dreaded gluten hasn't slipped through their slippery descriptions like "No Wheat Used In This product" which is doublespeak for "Gluten may, or may not, be in our product but because we need to cover our corporate a__es, we are just saying 'No Wheat'"

So when Mike Adams, Health Ranger, alerted me to the fact that the US government is pushing an amendment to CODEX banning GMO content notification on food labelling.. well.. I saw red. How could this be anything but a sneaky behind-the-scenes move by the likes of Monsanto peddling influence to protect their "Frankenstein food"?

Mike alerted me to a petition now circulating and if you think like me, here it is.

Cancer Stories

I received this email today from a dear lady faced with breast cancer:

"Hello Ian, Have just read your little book about acid/alkaline. Have just started to read about it as I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer bone mets. You said that you have come across a lot of cancer success stories? Just wondering about them? Also saw a website and contacted the author Vernon on www. phkillscancer.com and he claims to have killed his cancer cells dead with a bicarb soda/maple syrup regime over 10 days. When I contacted him I asked if he had heard of anyone else who had done this and he said that one other man has done it. I tried this regime, but in contrast to Vernon's reported PH levels, I quit because my wee PH went up too quickly to 8.0 -8.5 whereas my saliva stayed around 6.5 - over 4 days. I found it difficult to test the saliva with the strips and stix and found a difference in the test levels between the two. I was drinking a lot of alkalising greens as well which obviously affected the wee ph. All I can think is that Vernon's PH must have been balanced to start and mine was not and he didn't drink the alkalising greens. Vernon says he had a bone scan which confirmed that his cancer was gone - he took a few supplements as well and these are on the website - including potassium, coral calcium, vitamin D, echinacea, alpha lipoic acid etc. I contacted the Larry from Essence of Life that Vernon refers to and he said he didn't believe Vernon - mind you, I think Larry sells a lot of cancer products - quite a lucrative business. What do you think of Vernon's claims? do you think it is possible? I have started alkalising eating more vegies, drinking alkalising greens and have just bought one of the alkapods. Cut out sweets, choc, coffee - only one slice bread per day, a small portion of muesli with a bit of milk for breakfast, juicing and so on. Cut right down on meat - not that I was much of a meat eater anyhow. basically what you have recommended. I also have coral calcium, alpha lipoic acid, potassium, digestive enzymes etc. I gained the impression from Larry that the alkalising will definitely affect my bone mets and I will experience more pain before it gets better. Do you know anything about this and if not where I can find information on how alkalising affects bone mets? thanks"

Here's my reply:

Hi, _____,

Since writing my book the TGA has become very vigilant. Understandably, of course, because cancer is something so powerful emotionally that many many people try to use its power to make money. So I cannot give you actual testimonials for people who have given me their stories.

Yes, we have quite a few amazing cancer stories, but fundamentally after 11 years I have to say that in my opinion all ‘C’ treatments are always relative to what we might call the tipping point.
By this I mean that it’s my understanding that we all have cancer in some form, but choose to react to it only when it threatens our current life. And while some people have lived with active preventative health regimes in place, others ‘find’ health alternatives only after many years of body neglect.

Either way, it appears that the success of all cancer treatments depend on this invisible ‘tipping point’ which varies per individual and after that point, the cancer will win. An unaware person who has ignored their health may have an earlier ‘tipping point, a healthy person a later one. And even that isn’t, in my observation, a hard and fast rule.

What I do see over and over again is that alkalizing, in whatever form you choose, MAY* assist in the support of anti-inflammatory, anti-excess acidity, and anti-immunity loss conditions. Virtually all alternative health regimes advocate alkalizing. Re the urine vs. saliva testing, I would recommend you read my attached white paper on pH testing. (here) Saliva and urine is not the same.

Keep on with what you are doing: I think you are on the right path.

And Good Luck!

Ian
